According to Oxford Languages, braids by definition are “a length of hair made up of three or more interlaced strands.” The history of braids dates back to 3500 BC. Braids are symbolic to strength and a representation of one’s identity.
Braids are a form of art. The craftsmanship that goes into braiding styles requires extreme attention to detail. In the era of fast-moving trends, new styles of braiding are formed everyday. The most popular braiding styles are cornrows as they serve as a base for other braiding styles.
I started getting braids the minute I had hair on my head. The most popular braiding style for me are Box braids. Another style I tried and enjoyed were Goddess braids. Goddess braids are an extension of Box braids with airy curls attached. These looks are as followed:
Recently, I ventured out from my typical braided styles and tried twists. A style (that is also trending) that caught my eye are called Passion twists. Passion twists are two-strand twists using wavy hair extensions. This look is not too far off from your typical box braids as shown below:

The similarities between the two hair styles made the transition from braids to twist pleasant. I will continue exploring different styles and giving updates throughout the process.
