Zoom University… Abroad

Fall Semester 2020 has begun.

Our current climate has lasted way longer than anyone could have imagined. The many changes that have been discussed prior to the school semester starting are now being seen in action.

The most significant change is the change from in-person class to virtual learning. This transition is extremely unique and comes with several complications.

I believe this transition is better for the majority as in-person classes would only promote the spread of COVID-19. However, I wish to see schools take more initiative in ensuring that students needs are being met fully. At-home life varies for each student which can/will have a direct reflection on how the student will perform during the school term.

My university announced our transition in May which allowed students to move accordingly in figuring out what there next steps were going to be with virtual learning confirmed. My classes started August 24th and my experience so far feels as though I am in a summer session. I log on, take notes, submit assignments and repeat. I am very interested in seeing how professors will accommodate specific assignments that require interviews as getting in touch with people could be more challenging as everyone is still trying to manage their own situations during the pandemic and people are in various parts of the world.

Speaking of various parts of the world, I will be taking my fall semester abroad! With the transition to online classes, I knew I wanted to return to Ghana. This was a perfect opportunity for me to experience life in Ghana for an extended period of time during my young adulthood. In the same manner, I get the study abroad experience I was not sure if I wanted to experience at the time my university recommended. One of the most promising parts of this move is that the COVID-19 numbers are significantly less than the numbers in the United States. This allows me to do more in my day-to-day life.
