The end of semester calls for an enjoyable break. After dedicating several hours a day to school and work during the school semester, it is only right that I now take some to myself.
During my winter break from classes, I will be heading to Ghana to visit family and friends. This December is a very special one as this year has been announced to be the Year of Return. The Year of Return is meant to connect Africans on the continent with their brothers and sisters in the diaspora. This announcement has introduced the development of different events for educational and entertainment purposes throughout the year.
Before arriving to one’s destination, one must have a well packed bag. The key to ensuring that all essential items are packed is to break down packing into different sections. A top tip is to have one suitcase for basics. This should include: skincare, haircare, tooth care, sleepwear, undergarments, activewear, and makeup. The second suitcase should include any styled outfits as well casual and polished attire.
Additionally, one’s carry-on should consists of sunglasses, jewelry, purses and shoes. Having it organized in this way allows one to stay organized throughout their trip. Along with this organizational strategy, other must do for trips consists of the following:
- create a packing list
- this list will make sure that you don’t forget anything and works like a charm every time.
- roll clothes instead of folding them
- condenses spaces and fits more clothes
- tap liquids and put in travel bag or zip lock bag
- avoid spills and pack the tape for the return trip
- pack a travel laundry bag
- to separate dirty clothes from clean clothes
- THIS is non-negotiable
- pack fragile items in between clothes (if needed)
- to avoid breaking items
