Lights, Camera, Action

It’s showtime!

I have been involved in my school newspaper called the Daily Aztec for over a semester now. The Daily Aztec is a student run organization that gives hands on experience in journalism. I have been able to gain skills in the broadcasting industry which has been fulfilling thus far.

Last semester, I was apart of the Daily Aztec’s multimedia group. This group included the producing and editing of video packages to post on the official web page. Those working in multimedia had to shoot, edit, and write video scripts in its entirety.

As fun as it is to be on camera, I took it upon myself to learn the backend of video production. I felt as though this would allow me to be more multifaceted. Understanding how the different elements come together and are used for a single show makes one more understanding and knowledgeable when on camera.

A new segment for me that I have tapped into is the Daily Aztec live broadcast show. This show is held on Fridays and updates viewers on all things San Diego State such as news alerts and sports updates.

This show challenges me to work in real time and get the job done perfectly (or a close as possible). Within these next few weeks, I will return back on screen as my time behind the scenes can come to an end now that I am comfortable with what I have learned on the production side and am able to put together a show (with the DA staff).
